GALs supports the youth of this community through a Spring grant cycle and a Holiday "adopt a family" program. In 2017, Gilroy Assistance League distributed $19,000 in grant funds and $1,000 for the Holiday "Adopt a Family Program with thanks to all who so generously supported the 2016 Home and Garden Tour, "Impressions."

Since 2007, GALs has awarded $164,039 to local charities in our community, according to Chair Gina Anderson.

The 2017 GALS Grants Recipients are:

  • Community Solutions: $1,025 to run a Family Day of Fun eight times throughout the year
  • Unspoken Works: $3,000 to provide attractive packaging and personal hygiene items to children in local schools and in foster care
  • Rebekah Children's Services: $4,783 to add storage, shade and a bench to enhance the outdoor center acquired through a 2016 GALs grant
  • DreamPower Horsemanship: $3,000 to provide six (6) registered therapeutic riding instructors for special needs campers at a summer camp experience
  • Sportsman Chef: $2,000 to provide special needs students with a Day of Fishability at Lake McAlpine
  • Gateway School: $391 for a Swing to Fit swing set and $852 to purchase water therapy floats for students with special needs
  • South Valley Middle School: $700 to replenish art supplies for the after-school Art Club
  • Christopher High School, Special Needs Classroom: $750 to purchase t-shirts for the volunteers to wear at the Special Needs Prom
  • Learning and Loving Education Center: $750 to build and install shelves in the pre-school
  • Christopher High School Shining Star Program:$600 to purchase crowns and tiaras for the Shining Star Prom.
  • One Heart to Another: $900 to support the Cozy Hearts project at La Isla Pacifica supplying fleece blankets and notes for clients.
  • Eliot School Library: $700 to update the Biography section of the Library

Our 2016 Holiday "adopt a family" program benefited one large family in Gilroy with 9 children (ages 2-16), giving them gifts and household items to share that would not have been possible without GALs assistance. Community Solutions made possible a donation of bikes to each of the children as well!
