GALs supports the youth of this community through a Spring grant cycle and a Holiday "adopt a family" program. In 2019, Gilroy Assistance League distributed $22,000 in grant funds and $900 for the Holiday "Adopt a Family Program with thanks to all who so generously supported the 2018 Home and Garden Tour + Boutique, "Impressions."

Since 1993, GALs has awarded $267,023 to local charities in our community, according to Grants Chair Gina Anderson.

Terms of Grant

The 2019 GALS Grants Recipients are:

  • Community Solutions: $1,500 to purchase art therapy supplies and backpacks for the Prevention and Early Intervention Program that serves students in GUSD and MHUSD who are at risk of experiencing mental health or behavioral challenges.
  • One Heart to Another: $2,000 to purchase drawstring nylon bags and personal hygiene products for youth in foster care.
  • Gateway School: $620 to purchase a color-changing table to provide a sensory experience to students with autism and visual impairments.
  • Gateway School: $1,232 to purchase a rocking barrel that offers a variety of sensory input for students with special needs.
  • Learning and Loving Education Center: $1,500 to establish a music program for the 50-60 preschoolers enrolled. Rhythym instruments, DVDs and other resources will also be purchased.
  • Rebekah Children's Services: $3,194  to purchase a greenhouse and gardening supplies that can be used to grow produce year-round to be used by the culinary arts program.
  • Brownell Middle School Choir: $3,000 to update choir attire by purchasing 40+ formal dresses for choir performances.
  • Gilroy/Morgan Hill NJB Basketball: $1,000 to epair and replace basketball backboards, nets, padding, first aid kits and general gym floor maintenance supplies.
  • Luigi Aprea Parent Club: $1,026 to purchase a Buddy Bench for the general playground to help children, who might not have anyone to play with at recess, connect with others.
  • One Giving Tree: $1,500 to provide Christmas trees for "at-risk" kids to give them a sence of wonder and a little magic. A Sense of belonging. A Sense that life isn't so bad.
  • Santa Clara County Library District Foundation: $1,100 to add a student intern and additional children/youth-oriented programming for the 2019 Gilroy Lunch at the Library Program.
  • South County Tail Waggers: $1,828 to cover the costs for one summer camp offered to help with socialization skills for younger children with disabilities.
  • Sportsman Chef: $2,500 to provide resources for the annual BBQ and fishing event for physically and mentally challenged children and adults.

Our 2017 Holiday "adopt a family" program benefited a family of 8 who were the recipients of GALs Holiday Giving Program through the Salvation Army. GALs members delivered toys, clothes, diapers and a $200 Nob Hill gift card while One Giving Tree delivered a Christmas tree and decorations.
